Year 4 Dive into Discovery with Wessex Rivers Trust

30 April 2025

KES Prep welcomed the Wessex Rivers Trust into school on Monday for an inspiring and interactive workshop, marking the launch of Year 4’s new Discovery topic on rivers.

The expert team introduced pupils to the vital role rivers play in our ecosystems and led them through a range of engaging, hands-on activities that brought classroom learning vividly to life.

Following the workshop, pupils took part in an unforgettable outdoor session at the riverbank. Equipped with wellies and boundless enthusiasm, they got stuck into real-world investigative work—exploring aquatic habitats, measuring water flow, and testing water quality. It was a day of discovery, curiosity, and muddy boots!

Miss Andrews, Year 4 teacher, reflected on the experience:

“It was a truly fantastic day of learning. The children were so engaged and excited to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting. Opportunities like this bring science and geography to life and help pupils develop a deep, lasting understanding of the world around them.”

This experience perfectly reflects KES Prep’s ethos of learning beyond the classroom, combining academic challenge with real-life relevance. Pupils not only deepened their understanding of geography and science, but also developed key skills in observation, collaboration and critical thinking.

A huge thank you to the Wessex Rivers Trust for delivering such a memorable and meaningful day.
