Educational Facilities and Resources

Children have access to a wide range of high quality learning resources at King Edward VI Preparatory School from sewing machines to 3D printing, there are many resources to enhance their learning.

We have a dedicated Cookery room, Music room, Art room, Design and Technology room, Science laboratory, and Languages room. Lower and Upper Prep have their own dedicated well-stocked fiction and reference library and a IT suite. Pre-Prep has its own IT suite and library.

In School, we have banks of iPads that are used to support your child’s learning. Your child will use the iPads for a range of subjects including Science, Mathematics, English and will have the ability to use specially selected apps to aid their learning and development. Interactive whiteboards, virtual reality headsets and green screens are also available to enhance children’s learning.

Highwood House stands in 22 acres of grounds, which include playing fields, a heated swimming pool, tennis courts, an all-weather riding arena and stables. The outside environment is a wonderful educational resource at KES Prep and as well as the above, children have supervised access to the school’s Forest School sites, beehives, built raised beds for growing vegetables and our conservation area. This includes two ponds with dipping platforms and timber walkways over marshy areas, giving children the chance to study the natural environment at first hand.

The Andrew Sanger-Davies (ASD) Sports Hall includes a full size pitch, large viewing gallery and changing rooms. A high standard of specification has been used throughout; it is used extensively for sport, drama, assemblies and community opportunities.

Following on the success of our state-of-the-art Pre-Prep building, a Key Stage 2 building was completed in 2020. This building provides a spacious educational environment, with a very dynamic design. All classrooms have direct access to undercover outside areas, allowing all pupils to learn outdoors in all weather. The materials and colours have been chosen carefully to fit in with our natural woodland surroundings.

Adjacent to this is our latest project – an adventure playground which, apart from log towers and climbing nets, also includes two very cool hammocks!

This new adventure playground is just one small part of KES Prep's vision to get their children outside: KES Prep believes in children thriving when they have plenty of access to the great outdoors. In a world where education is increasingly digitised, KES Prep wants its children to flourish outside, whether that is during Forest School sessions in the woods, conducting science experiments down by the ponds or caring for the school farm animals.
