We understand that choosing the right school for your child can be a daunting process, but we are here to help. We are thrilled to open our doors to prospective families for on-site visits so that you can get a true impression of life at KES Prep.
Our children are always keen to meet prospective families and chat about their experiences at School; we believe they are our best ambassadors! The below tours give families the opportunity to come along and meet with some of our children and staff to find out what they love about being at King Edward VI Preparatory.
Nursery & Prep School Open Morning – Saturday 28 September 2024
We are holding an open morning next week, which is a great opportunity to bring along your children to experience a selection of different activities and tour our School and grounds.
Early Years (age 2-4) will be venturing down to our Little Meadow area for a range of apple themed activities. They will be toasting cinnamon apples on the fire, making apple juice, printing with apples, rolling apples and creating apple crafts. There is also our mud kitchen, water wall, digging pit and climbing area to enjoy.
Children interested in Pre-Prep (age 5-6) will be visiting the school farm and meeting the chickens, ducks, pigs, ponies and goats. They will have fun feeding the animals and learning facts about them, followed by some fabulous farm art activities in the classroom.
For Lower and Upper Prep children (age 7-10), we will have a range of STEAM activities including Lego 'Robot Wars', K'nex Bridge Building Challenge, a journey through the digestive system using VR headsets and time to investigate electrical circuits. Sport is also available for children in our Sports Hall, where they can participate in handball, netball and football.
Please can children come dressed for the weather and wear wellington boots for both the Forest School and Farm activities, and a pair of clean trainers and bring a water bottle for the sporting activities.
Tours of the School will be available for parents during this time.
This open event will run on Saturday 28 September: 10.00am -12.00pm.

Individual Tours
We welcome families in to school for individual tours throughout the year – at a time convenient to you. These visits are an excellent way to visit the school, meet our staff, children and animals, and explore our facilities and extensive grounds.

Early Years (Nursery and Reception)
Learn about our passion for giving children the best start to their school education. Jo Humphreys, Head of Early Years, and our Nursery Manager, will be on hand to answer all those all-important questions, while your child enjoys a play session in our Early Years Department. Incorporating our Nursery and Reception classes, our purpose-built and newly refurbished building is designed with the needs of the child at its heart.
Experience our wonderful classrooms, large canopied outdoor classroom outdoor play area and Little Meadow, our new outdoor classroom complete with a fruit tree orchard, insect hotels, a den building area and a path to the farm. Be warned, once your child sees some our farm animals they might not want to leave!
Pre-Prep (Years 1 and 2)
We invite you into our Pre-Prep, which includes Year 1 and Year 2, and is housed in a purpose built, modern, light and spacious building with two classes per year group.
Visit our classrooms to meet our children and teachers and experience our creative and stretching curriculum for Pre-Prep. This is a fantastic opportunity to see all that we can offer and to hear from our Headmistress, Rebecca Smith, and Head of Pre-Prep, Kirsten Walton, about how we can support your child’s transition into the next stage of their education.
Lower Prep (Years 3 and 4)
The Lower Prep years at KES Prep are an incredibly exciting time, packed with opportunities. We warmly invite you into our classrooms to meet our middle school children and teachers and see how we gently start to prepare our children for the next stages of their education through a broad and challenging curriculum.
This is a fantastic opportunity to see the difference preparatory school education can make and to hear from our Headmistress, Rebecca Smith, and Head of Lower Prep, Lucy Tippett.
Upper Prep (Years 5 & 6)
Our Upper Prep are where the excitement of an inspiring, secondary-style curriculum guides our children to become more independent and prepares them for their next steps in education.
Specialist teachers across the curriculum mean students are taught by passionate, knowledgeable staff who ensure every child is challenged at their own level within a bespoke curriculum. Visit our classrooms and see how KES Prep can provide the perfect springboard for your child to confidently move on into a bigger setting, whilst talking to Upper Prep staff and Head of Upper Prep, Suzy Martin.
