Going Back to the 1940s
Year 6 went back in time and enjoyed an immersive Word War II day in the Summer Term. To tie in with their World War II topic, and in advance of them going to Normandy for their residential, they dressed up in an array of 1940's attire and embraced the day with excitement and respect.
As part of their Discovery lessons the children learnt about World War II; they looked at the topic from a historical perspective and brought the period to life in an exciting way with both this WWII Day and their trip to Normandy.
Some of the key events explored included a lesson about the Holocaust. This lesson focussed on Anne Frank and her experience of antisemitism as well as children being evacuated to the UK on the Kinder-transport. The lesson was approached in a sensitive way that respects what happened, as well as the age of the children being taught.
